This is the view from my Airbnb just outside of Siena, Italy. The last couple days have been rainy but today the sun has come out in full force! Driving around on SR2 and SR222 have been plenty fun and there have been some patches of nice weather. My rental is a secret which I will reveal at some point. Hint: it’s rear engine and rear wheel drive! Also hint: it’s not nearly cool as that sounds haha.

Drive up through Tuscany (lunch in Bolsena) and some stops along the way including Siena on Wednesday via SR2, Florence on Thursday via SR222, and a very relaxing day today with dinner in Siena tonight. Wonderful time up here and quite beautiful. Hoping the trip down to the Amalfi coast for the weekend will be as nice!

Smart ForTwo?

Nice pictures. I’ve been to Italy one time about 10 years ago. I was in Florence for a day - I’d love to go back and spend more time there.

I love Tuscany, if you’re ever around Artimino you have to eat here.

Ristorante Da Delfina

Via della Chiesa, 1, 59015 Artimino, Carmignano FI, Italy

The food was so amazing, fresh quail cooked on a open wood fire. Plus the house wine is from Artimino which is a fantastic vineyard.

Wow! I’m really thinking about dragging my wife to Spain or Italy this fall for our anniversary (while plane tickets are still cheap thanks to oil!). I am TERRIFIED of Airbnb...I mean, I would have used it as a 19-year-old backpacker, but I’m close to 40, hotels are relatively cheap, and I don’t want to be axe-murdered (or "Amanda Knoxed" by a second-tier legal system). How has the service been for you? Also, the Amalfi coast is some of the most beautiful countryside in the world. Don't drink too much Limoncello — it's addictive.

I was there last week, driving those same roads in a very egg-shaped Lancia Ypsilon manual! Have fun and watch out for vineyard tractors coming around blind corners...

Driving on the Amalfi coast should be “interesting”, especially if you pass some tour buses. Views are great if you are riding. Drivers tend to grip the wheel hard.

I’m saying Twingo, which is basically the same thing.

Wow, great pics! That's such a beautiful area, and Siena was especially cool to walk around.

Airbnb has been nothing but great for me. Only trouble has been finding some of the places once I get to the local area. Some people aren't great at just giving the address and like to give "descriptive" instructions instead. Haha the GPS coordinates are much better! Anyways, it's honestly wonderful because you get a much more home-like experience most of the time. I've had helpful hosts who can give me a real local view of the area rather than the touristy help at the hotel front desk. The only thing you miss out on is getting your bed made every day by the maid service. But I find that what you gain is worthwhile. Certainly some places are better than others and you get what you pay for really. I use it pretty much everywhere!

Haha I look forward to freaking out my girlfriend while driving down there. Glad I went with the small car on this trip then! Should be some great views that hopefully make the harrowing drive worth it. Also might just spend our time relaxing and walking around Positano if we really like it there.

And deer! I've seen 2 deer in the middle of the road in the evening since I've been here. More scary though are the people flying around tight corners without a care in the world as if the sheer cliffs and walls on either side aren't even there.

Yup, I’ve found some great places to eat. Just had some excellent steak in Siena tonight! I’ll be sure to add Artimino to the list for next time.

That thing would surely suck although I am curious how they handle twisties! Very close though.

That would be nice. Too bad it's impractical for rental car companies to rent out classics for a reasonable price with unlimited mileage. Or not even classics but just fun but slightly older cars.

Try to get to Ravello (sitting on top of the hills) if you can, close to Positano.
